CT colonography Standards documents are now available and gaining experience in CT colonography is a core component of the FRCR curriculum. However quality of CT colonography training and assessment of trainees is piecemeal and variable. In response, the BCSP have agreed to sponsor a limited series of five 'two day' Training CT colonography Trainers courses, one per Screening Hub in England. The course will introduce consultant radiologists to latest evidence based training and assessment methods tailored to CT colonography and designed to enhance teaching and assessment skills. It will provide delegates with the educational tools required to teach a practical skill very specifically focussed on CT colonography and how to get the best out of their trainees.
The course will also include tips and tricks, and clinically orientated vignettes to facilitate improvement in technique and interpretation for screening and diagnostic settings however its focus is on teaching skills rather than on skills improvement for the delegate.
The course will utilise the skills and experience of experienced radiologist and endoscopy trainers of the St Mark’s Hospital BCS team, including Drs David Burling and Siwan Thomas-Gibson and will draw on the experience of a successful national programme of Training Endoscopy Trainers. No registration fee is required for these initial courses and the course includes lunch and refreshments for both days with dinner on the first night (Delegates must arrange their own accommodation and travel).
Each course will train six consultant radiologists, selected and grouped according to their CT colonography experience and Hub region. Each radiologist needs to be an active member of a CT colonography service in an English Hospital with a Colonoscopy Screening Centre which is part of the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
